Apple Just announced and demoed features of their next release of its iPhone OS (iPhone OS 4), Steve Jobs and company stepped on the Cupertino stage and wowed us with all of the good stuff!! , here’s a brief summery of all the exciting new features :


  • Multitasking

    It’s here, finally. It’s handled with a simple task switcher: double click your home button, and you get a list of running apps. Select, switch, done. Multitasking is limited to audio (Pandora!), VoIP (Skype!) and GPS (Navigation!).


  • Folders

    Organize apps into folders with drag-and-drop simplicity. Get faster access to your favorites and browse and manage up to 2160 apps at once — many more than the current limit of 180 apps.


  • Even Better Mail

    See messages from all your email accounts displayed together in a unified inbox, switch between inboxes more quickly, organize messages by threads, and even open attachments in third-party apps.


  • iBooks

    The best way to browse, buy, and read books on a mobile device. Easily flip through the pages of a book you’ve downloaded from the iBookstore while listening to your music collection. Browse tens of thousands of books — many of them free — by title, author, or genre. You can even check out reviews and read sample pages before you buy.

    iAd

    iAd is a breakthrough mobile advertising platform from Apple. With it, apps can feature rich media ads that combine the emotion of TV with the interactivity of the web. For developers, it means a new, easy-to-implement source of revenue. For advertisers, it creates a new media outlet that offers consumers highly targeted information.

iPhone OS 4.0 Preview Event Scheduled for This Thursday

Apple has sent out media invitations for a preview event scheduled for this Thursday, April 8th, to show off iPhone OS 4.0. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific Time in the Town Hall on Apple’s Cupertino, California campus.

Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.1.3

Apple today released iPhone OS 3.1.3 for all iPhone and iPod touch models, addressing several specific bugs as well as offering fixes for a handful of security issues.

This update for the iPhone and iPod touch contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:

- Improves accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS.
- Resolves issue where third-party apps would not launch in some instances.
- Fixes bug that may cause an app to crash when using the Japanese Kana keyboard.

64GB iPhone and 128GB iPod Touch Possible in 1st Quarter 2010

Toshiba announced that they have launched a 64 gigabyte (GB) embedded NAND flash memory module. The new chip offers 64GB on a single chip and will start mass production in the first quarter of 2010.

The reason the largest iPhone (32GB) currently has 1/2 the memory of the largest iPod touch (64GB) is that the iPhone can only house a single NAND flash chip while the iPod touch can accommodate two. The additional space in the iPhone is taken up by its communication hardware. This new advancement should allow for 64GB iPhones and 128GB iPod touches in 2010.

Radio Application for iPhone and iPod Touch?

an iPhone radio.app is being developed in-house by Apple for use on the iPhone and iPod touch.  The app will be allowed to operate in the background like iPod.app and will offer the same functionality as the FM radio in the new iPod Nanos.  Sources mentioned that this application could also be incorporated into the iPod.app before release.

Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.1.2

Apple today released iPhone OS 3.1.2, addressing several issues regarding waking from sleep, network service disruption, and crashing during video streaming. iPhone users should connect their iPhones to iTunes and click the “Check for Update” button to obtain the new version.

This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:

- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming

The update is compatible with all iPhone models and weighs in at approximately 240 MB.

iPhone accessories can prompt automatic App Store downloads

Apple is now allowing Made For iPod- and Works With iPhone-certified developers to include automatic application download prompts when connecting app-supported accessories.

So once you install an iPhone/iPod Touch accessory it will prompt you to download the specific app required to enable that accessory features, this would open doors for a lot of developers to take advantage of this in developing hardware based apps for the iPhone, which would allow us to see more devices that is going to expand the phones features and capabilities.
