With the iPhone v2.1 software out of the door, Apple is hard at work on v2.2. From this first glimpse it looks like Apple, now that the major bugs have been squashed, is adding some new features.

The screenshot, unearthed by iPhone Atlas, shows a new Safari interface. Above you see a  picture of the new v2.2 Safari. In the new browser, Google gets its own search bar (instead of popping up when you hit the regular URL bar) and the reload button has been moved the address bar, a purely aesthetic change which helps the text-entry areas to look bigger.

UPDATE : whispers that Apple is about to bump the top-end iPhone capacity to 32GB are getting harder to ignore — especially since 8GB inventory is drying up, leading to speculation that’s it’s going to be dropped as soon as next week. AppleInsider also says customers will once again get the option to activate in-home, but we haven’t heard anything about that — we’ll see what happens in the next few days.

Phase II of Microsoft’s $300 million rebranding ad campaign started airing tonight during prime time. The ad showed a series of individuals saying “I’m a PC” in various settings. 

The ad is a direct response to Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads where Justin Long and John Hodgman play the Mac and PC characters, respectively. Microsoft is embracing the “I’m a PC” line in their new ad campaign.

Additional versions of the ad:

- I’m a PC, and I am Not Alone

EFi-X is the latest commercial product to allow PCs to boot Mac OS X. A company called Psystar made headlines in April when it introduced its “Open Computer” which was built from generic PC parts and also allowed users to boot Mac OS X Leopard. Psystar advertised the computer as an affordable alternative to an official Apple Mac. Psystar would install a modified version of Mac OS X on their computers to allow them to boot into Apple’s operating system. Apple has since sued the company citing copyright infringement.

EFi-X takes a different approach by offering a hardware add-on that allows you to install an unmodified Mac OS X onto certain PC configurations. EFi-X is offering it as afor enthusiasts tool , and not necessarily for those looking to save money.

Only specific hardware configurations are supported, but if your PC fits those specifications, the EFi-X add-on promises headache free installation and upgrades.

After weeks of developer seeds, Apple has released Mac OS X 10.5.5 to customers. The latest upgrade to Leopard is available through your Mac OS X Software Update.

The 10.5.5 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.

Highlights of the improvements include:

- Addresses stability issues with video playback, processor core idling, and remote disc sharing for MacBook Air.
- Improves Spotlight indexing performance.

- In MobileMe: improves overall sync and Back to My Mac reliability.
- Improves Time Machine reliability with Time Capsule.

Apple “Let’s Rock” event was held today and its primary focus was iPods. As expected, new iPod all over.

حدث ابل “لتس روك” حصل اليوم و كان مركزا حصريا على الايبود. كما هو متوقع تم طرح منتجات ايبود جديدة نوعا ما.

iPod Shuffle
iPod Shuffles got new colors but otherwise remained the same in terms of storage.

iPod Nano
The Nano how ever was totally redesigned and now sports a longer shape with longer screen and an accelerometer to know when the thing is tilted. The Nano is offered in 9 different colors with either an 8GB or 16GB flash drive. It also offers a Genius feature which creates a play list of similar songs, and when you shake it, it shuffles your songs. Finally a nice curved design. Prices are $149 for the 8GB model and $199 for the 16GB model.
