Macbook Air, What We Think!

macbookair

With Macworld behind us, let us take a closer look at the Macbook Air. First let us start with some specs:

Size and weight

Height: 0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm)
Width: 12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth: 8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
Weight: 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)

Specs

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo with 4MB cache, 800MHz frontside bus, designed especially for the Macbook Air
Memory: 2GB DDR2 SDRAM onboard (might be soldered with no ability to upgrade)
Hard Drive: Standard 80GB PATA Drive, Optional Solid State 64GB Drive
Optical Drive: None, Optional External USB SuperDrive
Display: 13.3-inch glossy widescreen LED backlit display
Graphics Card: Intel GMA X3100 With 144MB of Shared Memory
    Camera: Built-in iSight
Keyboard: Full size keyboard with backlit light and an ambient light sensor
    Mouse: Trackpad with multi-touch gestures.
    Wireless: 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
    Connections: 1 x Audio out, 1 x USB 2.0 port, 1 x Micro-DVI port
    Built-in Mono Speaker and microphone
    Battery Lasts for 5 hrs.

Design
Overall, the design is beautiful, functional and simple. It is slim and light with all the features you would want in a laptop to carry around with you and do your work and browsing. This is not, however, a laptop that is meant to go solo. Your work and files probably have to be somewhere external or on another desktop Mac. This is, what I would consider, an on the road computer that does and carries what you really need and not everything you have. Very much like your iPod touch when it comes to storage.

Who is it for?
Well, its perfect if you have another Mac at home. It is not for people who need a main computer as this would not be able to hold everything you want and won’t play all your CDs and DVDs unless connected to and External Optical Drive or Remote Disc. If you are on the Go, then this laptop is for you. My Fellow Kuwaitis, this laptop is for you.

iPhoneCam streams video from iPhone over WiFi!

Ecamm Network is devising a way to stream video from the camera at 30fps to the Mac of your choice over WiFi. Even better, it can be hooked it up with Bonjour, so the Mac just sees it as a camera without any configuration needed. The download isn’t available yet, but Ecamm is teasing that they just might be willing to demo it at their Macworld booth this week.
